Current Gallery: flowers ( piece)
These are all from our garden @ home. It’s taken 20 years to develop it to this point and it is changing all the time. Each year we wonder what lilies we’ll have in that they cross pollinate and change in color and combinations of color each year. There seems to be no end to the variety they provide. There’s limited space so we try to add things when and where we can; along with pruning and manipulating the growing pattern of different plants. Keeping different types from taking over their spaces is an ongoing effort. As you can see, we love a variety and take pride in the garden when it’s in season~ here in upstate New York. The down side is that we have a limited growing season. The up side is that we have a limited growing season . It provides a break in the seemingly endless maintenance. Okay, the Dandelion isn’t technically from the garden, BUT, it is from our yard. The white cluster of small flowers is from a wild garlic. That is another plant that wants to roam endlessly. As you can see, I prefer to shoot macro as much as possible. It’s just personal choice. If I find that there’s more of a market for fuller shots, then I’ll offer more like that. We also see a change in the colors of the Morning Glories each spring and have fun guiding them around the kitchen windows. I love shooting the stamen and pistils of these flowers the most~ showing the fine hairs and pollen as sharply as possible. I shoot in the garden with live plants. As you know, many photographers like to take a bloom inside and do a whole studio lighting control on them but I prefer the natural lighting. It seems less sterile and manipulated. After all, they are photographs of something alive. Photography is just another form or art and therefore extremely and totally personal. So, we all choose what and how we shoot it. If I could paint or draw, I would but I have to use my camera as my instrument. It’s my brush and my voice to help me try to convey my heart and what makes me smile. This is my 1st year of offering anything for sale, so, I would appreciate any and all comments including criticisms you may have time to offer. I’m not sensitive and would welcome your thoughts. I recognize them as being helpful to my success. As I share with family and friends, everyone sees and feels a different thing about each shot. So, I would expect a full spectrum of feedback from you folks. But, the difference is that you’re all artists and ones that have been offering your work for sale. I would not only cherish your thoughts on my photos but also those about anyway I could offer my work in a better manner. Thanks for anyone who has read this far, lol, and I hope to be welcomed into your community. Sincerely, Kathaleen Allen
